OK, with my old-school, 1st-generation iPod nano prolly on its last legs, and the ability to get so much more for my money these days…I have decided to treat myself to a brand-spankin’ new, 4th-generation iPod nano.
The question is…when would be the appropriate time to give myself that gift? 🙂
Now? I have finished 1 month of training…
Or maybe if I PR at Club Champs!!
Or maybe wait til the halfway point…something special to get me through the more grueling 2nd half of training.
Or make it a b-day present for myself?
Or sometime else?
And I decided to bring back the voting booth!! Yeah, I decided to put these choices in a poll and let everyone have their say.
Vote early. But do not vote often-I once again fixed it so certain people won’t try and stuff the ballot box…you know who you are 😉
And for those of you who are a fan of my “guess my race time” polls…rest assured, there will be one coming soon 😉
When should I treat myself to a new iPod nano?(poll)
so i stopped by the Apple store by work today to check out the much-hyped new Shuffle.
Now it may be little and cute, but I dunno…don’t think I’m sold on that. I don’t like how the controls are in the headphones-since I hate the white headphones and wind up using different brands. And I even tried out the controls…meh. If I needed to play with the order, it could get annoying. Sorry Apple…as with certain other things, smaller isn’t always better 😛
In the meantime…getting a new iPod nano is very tempting…I do like the 4th-generation upgrade…
Other news-March Madness so far is breaking my heart…my bracket ain’t faring so well. Yeah it’s still early, but I’m doubtful my bracket is going to repeat last year’s glory.
And was Mother Nature f*cking with us today? First day of spring? Snow? Haven’t we suffered enough in the Northeast this winter…
12 more days…
typical for the week between xmas and new year’s right? the office is a ghost town. so…what better way to take advantage of it with a 2-hour lunch? even better when the waiters know us and they slip us a complimentary glass of port. even better when it’s expensed too 🙂
so right now, i’m utlizing my hanukkah present, which is in the piccy to the right…how cute is this thing? 😀 i am actually wearing the white headphones right now…not overly comfortable though. got a pretty cool case to go with it…will come in very handy when running.
saw la familia on sunday and yesterday…”celebrated” hanukkah with both homemade latkes and chinese food…and everyone was very happy with their presents…
was not too happy to come back to my place last nite and see part of the wall torn out…yeah, there’s work being done in my apartment and the place is a disaster area (but still somewhat liveable) but hopefully when all is said and done, i won’t have the same issue with lack of heat that i’ve had the last 2 winters, and my ConEd bills will go back to normal (you know there’s a problem when i’m paying twice as much during heating season than during A/C season-especially with this summer’s record heat! heat is supposed to be included in my lease.)
i need to get back to some sort of routine…ever since last week, i have not been able to fall asleep til after 2 am (damn transit strike coverage,) and waking up around noon (or if i’m getting up early for work or something, it ain’t a pretty sight!) don’t think any morning runs will be happening any time soon…at least not til after the new year…

yep, you heard that right. even though i had doubts about joining the “white headphones brigade” of iPod users, i think i will be getting a nano for Hanukkah. i wanted something that could hold more music, and was easier to make playlists with and just easier to search for certain songs/artists on the device…my music is important to me 🙂 and a couple of my teammates gave the nano glowing reviews.
ahh…holiday season. still got a coupla weekends to do my shopping…as this year Hanukkah is late-same day as Christmas, in fact!! But in terms of festivities, it all starts this week, kicking off with my work holiday party this Thursday. Last year the Flyers holiday party was the same night…so in my attempt to multitask, this was what wound up happening:
5-6 pm: pre-game at a nearby bar with a co-worker before work party. have an apple martini.
6-7 pm: office party-mingle a bit, grab a few hors d’oeuvres and another apple martini
7-7:30 pm: chatting with one of my co-workers at the restaurant bar. have one more appletini “for the road.”
7:30-head uptown to the Flyers party
approx 7:45-??? all a blur, but i vaguely remember having some wine (not smart!), trying to “work the room” in an attempt to drum up votes, heading out to a nearby bar for an after-party, crashing BIG TIME, eventually cabbing it home. woke up at 11 the next morning.
yeah, hindsight said i had a little too much to drink, but it was also a week full of late nights and early morning runs so i knew i was gonna crash and burn sometime that week, was just a matter of when.
so yes, one year older and hopefully one year wiser, will try not to repeat the same mistakes of the past 🙂

Well Apple has done it. They’ve come out with a pretty cool flash MP3 player, the iPod nano. (I don’t count the shuffle…I really wasn’t too crazy about the concept of that one.) Anyway, I love my Rio Cali-512 MB of memory plus an FM tuner but sometimes it’s a pain when trying to make playlists…all the songs I want have to be in the internal memory instead of the memory card. And 4 GB worth of songs sounds pretty cool. Even though I swore I wouldn’t join the “white headphones brigade,” I’m sure I’ll pick one up eventually…maybe before marathon training next year. And I’m sure there will be better/cheaper models by that time. If only Apple would come out with an iPod that has flash memory and the FM tuner it would be perfect…
Anyway, looking back, margaritas at Cilantro’s on Tuesday was a great time. I only had 2, but they were quite big, so that was enough for me 🙂 And man, so many September b-days…one of the guys who was there shares his b-day with me, another one has his on Friday. I have my theory as for why that is…why so many late September birthdays… 😉
Last nite, went to see the doc to check out the foot…although I felt it was getting better, there is still one stubborn spot that isn’t going away and he still wants me to limit running to twice a week 😦 Wouldn’t be so bad but I am just SICK AND TIRED of cross-training. Especially when it doesn’t always fit in with my schedule…I mean, I can sneak in a run whenever, but when I am at the mercy of a spinning class schedule or the gym’s operating hours…blah. The good news is that I can increase mileage a little bit…to 5 miles per run and that I can do 4 miles of the LTR next weekend. I’m hoping my “comeback race” of sorts will be the Marathon Kickoff 5-miler on 10/30-even if I don’t “race” it, just to kinda get back into the swing of things…sick of being on the sidelines. This Sunday is Grete’s Great Gallop half-marathon and instead of running, I’ll just be cheering and taking pictures and wishing I was running. It’s tough to take one for the team, but I guess it’s my responsibility with being co-captain…I’m encouraging these girls to run the points races, I feel I should make it a point to be there…whether running or not. Well, I guess I can also look at it as an excuse to break out the running skirt again 🙂
Yay…drinks at Red Sky tonite with the work crew. Looking forward to those apple martinis 🙂 I’m sure I will be quite hungover tomorrow morning-and that will perfectly coincide with us celebrating Oktoberfest at the office. Yep, you heard that right. In honour of our new parent company being German, our CEO decided we’d have beer and pretzels tomorrow :-p Gotta love our company culture sometimes.
